If I were pressed to choose a favourite era of Richard Thompson's live shows, it would have to be 1975. Actually, the same's true of Dylan - coincidence? The real crime is that whilst Dylan's Rolling Thunder Revue has finally gained some official representation (Live 1975) there are at least three soundboard recordings of Richard and Linda from that year that remain unreleased.

Those concerts are from Queen Elizabeth Hall, the Roundhouse and this one from Oxford Polytechnic, which also includes John Kirkpatrick on accordion. Some tracks can be found on (guitar, vocal), and several more should be on the forthcoming reissues. However, there's no sign of any move to do the right thing and release one of these shows in its complete glory. In the meantime, the only complete documents are fairly ropy audience recordings such as this one. The music shines through, but it's perhaps not an easy listen for the uninitiated.
