Recorded live at the Blue Note (now closed) in Boulder, Colorado on June 1, 1982.

"How true that is, even today." (Linda, after Hard Luck Stories)

In recent years it seems like RT shows in Boulder can always be relied on for that little something extra, and this gig from a small club venue (as far as I can tell, now closed) shows that that tradition stretches back at least as far as the Richard & Linda days.

There seems to be a more relaxed attitude to the performances - it's hard to imagine Linda being able to make light-hearted remarks after the unbelievable version of Hard Luck Stories from San Fran a few days later, for example. All of the ensemble seem in a positively jovial mood, perhaps with the end of the tour in sight. For some reason Linda's vocals sound much more shakey by the late set, but the early show features some of her best singing on the tour. Pavanne is chilling - this rendition was described by the guy who sent this recording as "definitive", and I'm not going to argue.

A reasonably good audience recording, with up-front vocals although the instrumentation is slightly less clear. The sound seems marginally fuller for the early show, but that may just be my imagination. It's not without problems, including several cuts/edits - I'll Keep It With Mine is incomplete (it has been faded out at the end, although a good five and a half minutes are present), Sloth is strange and only the first three words of Danny Boy remain.

Of my two main sources for setlists, one implies that this was all one show. However, Bright Lights commonly opened the late show, you can hear Richard thanking the audience at the end of For Shame Of Doing Wrong and I can't imagine Genesis Hall and Sloth being played in the same set. For all these reasons I'm inclined to believe the second disc is indeed the second set.

Note: There's now a substantial upgrade available to this set, which I would recommend over this in all cases.
