"I don't get many cover versions of songs... this was done by the Pointer Sisters, believe it or not, on their least-selling album. The one before went platinum, and the one afterwards went platinum, and the one this was on sold about 15,000, which for those of you unfamiliar with record sales is not good. If you write books, it sounds like a lot, you know... if you write classical textbooks it sounds like an awful lot. In popular music - chicken feed. So this is Caledonian soul music. Yes, even Caledonians have souls, you know. If you imagine the Four Tops wearing kilts, that'll give you the concept." (before Don't Let A Thief Steal Into Your Heart)
The second cross-over hit of the evening, following Richard's pastiche of Bavarian Country & Western that opens Mind Your Own Business. Not quite the strangest intro of the evening, either - that award goes to the description of Valerie as a song about people who eat food-mixers. This solo acoustic show was broadcast on CBC, which is probably the source for this soundboard-quality recording.
