Another excellent performance from the impressive lineup of Thompson, Clive Gregson, Christine Collister and John Kirkpatrick, whose accordion really enhances tracks such as Two Left Feet (one of the best versions I've heard, despite Richard's lyrical fumbles). This is either a soundboard or an FM broadcast, and the sound is exceptional. There's the occasional light digiclick, but they're barely noticeable.
It's sourced from the commerical bootleg Playing The Game, which is rather ambiguous as to venues and dates. It suggests the main set is from Boston, Massachusetts during November 1988, and does not attribute the bonus tracks at all. However, Thompson namechecks Philly before Nearly In Love, allowing me to ascertain the date (although I'm not certain whether this is the early or late show).
I've got a collection of RT setlists which gives an incomplete listing of Hey Joe/Valerie/Wall Of Death/Don't Tempt Me for The Palms gig, exactly matching the first set of bonus tracks here. It's the only performance of Hey Joe in 1988 found in those files, and these tracks are also found as filler on the complete soundboard from Toad's Place.
As mentioned in the last paragraph, the Toad's Place gig from which the final three tracks are taken circulates in full; it's a solo acoustic appearance from the Summer of '88.
