Soundboard recording. It's probably missing a further three encores (King Of Bohemia/Turning Of The Tide/Drinkin' Wine Spo-Dee-O-Dee), but it seems unlikely they circulate. This was the final night of Richard & Danny's tour, and a jovial mood predominates.

Notes from the transferrer

"This was the first time I saw Richard Thompson live - and I couldn't have asked for a better seat. Jake's (which later became the Marrs Club, then Axxis, and now apparently doesn't exist at all) was a fairly small venue, room for maybe a hundred or a few more in the back room, and a fairly small stage about three feet high in the corner. My friend and I grabbed the table nearest and propped our feet up on the stage.

"The Thompson Twins!"

After getting the audience in good humor with Two Left Feet (and its requisite lyrical ad libs), Richard began to introduce himself and Danny and, much like the "It's" man of Monty Python fame, got no further than "We're..." before being upstaged by some unknown joker in the audience yelling out, "The Thompson Twins!" and bringing down the house. There followed much broad scheming by Richard and Danny on stage, pointing to the culprit and making ominous gestures, but none of that is caught on this soundboard recording, sadly.

"powder puffs"

For the duration of the show, a bottle of talcum powder had sat on a table just behind Richard at the back of the stage. Whenever Richard or Danny would hit that certain note, the table would resonate and a puff of powder would spume out from the bottle, greatly amusing the first few rows of the audience, but undetected by the players. Finally, after I Misunderstood, Richard noticed this phenomenon, and plays and sings a few notes in an attempt to reproduce the resonance.
