"That's got rid of him [Danny] for a while; the godfather elment, sort of the Cantona of folk/rock. So now we can get seriously depressed..." (before Dimming Of The Day)
An engaging acoustic show, with Danny on bass. Support act Christine Collister helps out on a few numbers, and for this gig they are joined by Dave Mattacks and original Fairport Convention member Iain Matthews, who sings lead on Reno Nevada and Poor Ditching Boy. This UK tour featured possibly the first live performances of Last Shift and the debuts of some of the You? Me? Us? material.
Most of these gigs included a pair of encores (invariably Beeswing/Ragg Mopp and I Misunderstood/Two Left Feet). They may be missing from this recording, or perhaps due to the longer set and Iain Matthews' appearance they opted not to perform them this night. Anyway, you won't have heard anything quite like the tongue-in-cheek rendition of Valerie (featuring Richard's Bay City Rollers tribute) that closes out the show.
