"This is a really old song, it's from 1971. Remember 1971? It's a very idealistic song, from a very idealistic time. It's about an acrobat up on a high wire. He's like a symbol for our ambitions. I think." (before The Great Valerio)
Very clear audience tape of Richard's second (?) tour of Japan. Oddly enough, a call for Hand Of Kindness after opening the floor for requests is met instead with a rendition of Genesis Hall, preceded by a discussion of squatting in London in the 1960s. There are a fair amount of explanatory introductions to songs this night, perhaps as a result of trying to convey an album about life in the British surburbs to a Japanese audience.
Beewswing and Two Left Feet are also played by request, but by now the avoidance of Hand Of Kindness (which, to be fair, hadn't been played live for a few years, and up until this point rarely or never in a solo acoustic setting) is becoming rather evident...
The support is a Japanese blues artist - I don't suppose there are any Japanese readers out there who could supply the name of the performer and songs? The audience seem to be having fun, anyway.
