w/ Nanci Griffith

Another great 2002 solo acoustic show, with the typical mix (for that year) of classic Thompson tunes, early outings for songs to appear on The Old Kit Bag, jokier material such as My Daddy Is A Mummy and old Fairport numbers.

This show was a double-bill with Nanci Griffith - although Richard's set is acoustic, he joined Nanci and her band later on for a rendition of Wall Of Death, also included on this boot. The following blurb is taken from the official Humphrey's Concerts By The Bay site:

"Every season you can count on Humphrey's producer Kenny Weissberg to create a dream double bill. The pairing of Nanci Griffith and Richard Thompson is this year's model. Being called "the torch-bearer of American folk music" and "the queen of folkabilly", singer/songwriter Nanci Griffith's body of work includes some of country music's most enduring story songs including Gulf Coast Highway, Love At The Five And Dime and Outbound Plane. She'll be joined by her Blue Moon Orchestra.

Richard Thompson's reverence in the musical community dates back to his Fairport Convention days in the 60s and continues through his profound and prolific solo career. His solo acoustic performance gives you a chance to marvel at his intricate and lightning fast fretboard excursions. Not to mention his unbelievable collection of original songs."

A reasonable quality audience recording, slightly marred by T.A.O. problems and an (at times) overtalkative taper. Despite these reservations, highly recommended.
