My second stab at recording directly from a radio broadcast, and this came out much clearer than my last attempt. It's marred by some slight static at the outset, but nothing too drastic.
The Mike Harding show is around 17 minutes, and consists of songs from the Old Kit Bag album (rather than live performances) interspersed with an interview. The interview segments are short snippets of Richard discussing the songwriting process, with particular regard to the songs featured on the broadcast. Not, it must be said, especially illuminating...
"I think you've got to be driven to do it... I love the idea that you sit down and you get some line from somewhere and then suddenly that turns into a song and you can't quite figure out how that happened."
The Andy Kershaw show is much better, lasting just over half an hour and featuring five tracks performed acoustically in the studio. The interview is (as you would expect) a little more rambling, although there a few interesting remarks on the origins of A Love You Can't Survive, for example.
"I get interested in stories where it's kind of dour and bleak and people are desparate, but that doesn't mean that's who I am. I'm a jolly, happy chappie."
