  4. If I Needed You

Recorded live at The Borderline in London, England on December 10, 1995.

The last night of the European tour yields a beautiful performance from a clearly drained Townes, although there are moments that now make fairly uncomfortable listening; the intro to Ira Hayes is perhaps the most pronounced, as you hear the audience's initial laughter to the singer's, "I'm afraid that I'm gonna collapse" subside as they realise he's being serious, and try to persuade him to take a break.

This is a clear audience recording, despite some prominent audience noise at the start. It finishes fairly abruptly at the end of If I Needed You, some of which may be missing in order to fit the show on a 74min CDR (although I believe many copies omit the encores altogether). If anybody's got a more complete version (my final track runs to 02:11), please let me know.
